Kiki the Lap Chicken

Oil on linen on panel, 6 x 6 in. -- Click Here to Buy

This is the second version of the portrait of Kiki, the Barred Rock chicken, I painted a few days ago. I changed her comb and facial details. I realized that it would look better if her comb is bleeding off the canvas edge, instead of stopping inside the canvas. I'm also learning to abstract the shape of the comb. This seems to improve the composition by emphasizing the point of interest, which is her eye in this case. With her gorgeous comb, she looks like she's wearing a princess's crown. A few weeks ago, she lost a small part of rear end of her comb in an accident. But since her comb is so big, it's hardly noticeable. She's still my princess.
