Breakfast at Sheep Farm

Oil on linen on panel, 6 x 6 inches  -- SOLD

I took the picture of this sheep at from Sunnyside Park in Pullman, WA this spring. There were many sheep, some llamas, and a few horses in the same pasture. It was their breakfast time, and the owner was just feeding them green grass and hey. It was challenging to render the black faced sheep in the light and shadow. I've been reading an art book about composition lately, and tried to incorporate some techniques. I chose the darkest area on the sheep's face as the focal point. His eyes and the grass in his mouth make the point of interest.
