Peoh Peak No.2

Oil on linen on panel, 6 x 8 in.

Peoh Peak is a big rocky mountain near Cle Elum, WA. I drove up the hill across the valley before sunset and set up my easel by my car, which provided a perfect shade for the canvas. I knew the colors on the bright side of the rocks will change dramatically just before sunset. So I timed myself for it. I wanted to make sure that I'd be ready to mix and put the colors on the highlights of the rocks at the right moment. The mountain range is actually far away, and I think I got that impression right with a hazy, atmospheric effect.
