Rabbitbrush in the Desert

Oil in linen on panel, 6 x 6 inches -- Click Here to Buy

This is a plein air painting I did this last week outside of Bishop, CA. I'm very intrigued by the golden glow of rabbitbrush, especially in the morning or afternoon light. I painted the bright yellow first, and worked on surrounding shapes outward. So the sky was the last part, with blueish gray. I paid extra attention to create the illusion of depth of the Sierra in the background. The light was changing so fast in the late afternoon, but I think I nailed the highlights on the hills just in time.
