Columbia River Lookout - Vantage Bridge

Oil on linen on panel, 6 x 8 in.-- SOLD

On the way back from Eastern Washington to Ellensburg, I took a scenic back road instead of main highways to do field research for my future paintings. I also took a detour on I-90 by the Columbia River, and stopped at the Wild Horse Scenic Viewpoint. It was pretty breezy along the cliff with the NW wind, but I found a perfect spot by a rocky wall, facing the Vantage Bridge. So I grabbed my portable easel (pochade box) and tripod from the car, and painted this one. It was a true plein air painting (outdoor painting at the site) of this year, and it was a good warm-up for the outdoor painting season. I think I will do a bunch more of plein air painting this summer.
